
In support of the ongoing people’s movement in Rangoon and other parts of Burma over the increase in fuel prices and consequently of essential commodities, activists in New Delhi, staged a demonstration on August 23, demanding that India pressurise the junta to immediately release detained student leaders, including Burma’s second most influential opposition leader, Min Ko Naing. They also appealed for assistance to the protesters by the Indian embassy in Rangoon.
