Several hundred Burmese migrants in Mizoram fled their country to escape forced labour and human rights violations by the Burmese military junta. Ye Min of Mizzima.tv finds out how the migrants survive in an alien land.

Unrelenting fight for freedom and unity


Led by an armed rebel group, the National Socialist Council of Nagalim, under the leadership of Isak Chisi Swu and Thuingaleng Muivah, the Nagas, living both in India’s northeast and Burma’s Northwest, have waged over 60 years of struggle for independence. However, Naga leaders said the recent increased in bilateral cooperation between India and Burma is aimed to crash upon the Naga movement and to further divide the Naga unity.

Harking back on 1988 uprising


Burmese activists in New Delhi hark back on memories of the historic and bloody uprising in 1988. Thousands of peaceful protesters were gunned down brutally by the military junta to cling to power. From the bloody crackdown, a pertinent movement was born that would later be known as the “8.8.88 movement for democracy”.

Junta arrests key student leaders but protest continues




August 22, 2007 - Burma’s 88 generation students group, today demanded the immediate release of key leaders, including Min Ko Naing, Burma’s second most prominent democracy leader, arrested at 00:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

While marching along the streets of Rangoon in protest against the recent hike in fuel prices today, the 88 generation students’ group, in a press release demanded that the junta release detained student leaders forthwith and resolve the economic crisis that stare people of Burma in the face.

Burmese activists in India stage demonstration in support of people’s movement in Burma.



In support of the ongoing people’s movement in Rangoon and other parts of Burma over the increase in fuel prices and consequently of essential commodities, activists in New Delhi, staged a demonstration on August 23, demanding that India pressurise the junta to immediately release detained student leaders, including Burma’s second most influential opposition leader, Min Ko Naing. They also appealed for assistance to the protesters by the Indian embassy in Rangoon.
